Welcome to our class
|About the Class Teacher
Hello and welcome to Year 2’s class website page. Here you will find a bit about me along with any important information to help you throughout the year. This is my second year at Moorfield, but I have been teaching for 13 years! I have worked in Year 2 for 4 years now and it is one of my favourite year groups to teach. This year we have lots of exciting topics planned in which we will share with you below.
Our PE day is on a Tuesday, please come into school in your full PE kit and all black trainers.
|Expectations for reading at home
I check reading records every Friday and look closely at how regularly children are reading at home. The expectation for reading at home in Year 2 is a minimum or 3 times per week.
This term, we will be studying Changes Through Living History in history this will lead into a geography topic focusing on the seaside. We will compare toys, holidays and schools in the past with what they are like now. We will then move on to focusing on the seaside and look closely at the different geographical features and compare with our own locality. We will be looking at the book ‘At the Beach’ by Roland Harvey and linking some of our reading and writing activities to the topic. Please take a look at our topic knowledge organiser below.
This term in Science we will be focusing on materials. We will look closely at the properties of materials and how materials can be grouped according to different properties. We will look at the different uses of materials and how some are more suitable than others for certain uses. During the topic the children will complete lots of hands on practical investigations and start to learn how we record investigations in our books. Please take a look at our science knowledge organiser below.
|Homework Days – SPAG/Reading/Maths
At the start of the half term, children were given a sheet of spellings for the whole half term. I find it easier for parents to manage to send out one list rather than a list each week. Spelling tests will be on a Friday.
Maths homework will be sent home on a Friday and is to be returned on a Wednesday.
We have had such a great start to the year! The children settled in really well and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together this year.
