Year 6

Hello everyone,

It’s Mrs Hunt here, it is my turn to set up our home learning for the final two weeks of the school year (w/b 6/7/20 and w/b 13/7/20).  We can’t believe it has gone so fast, and it really hasn’t turned out the way we expected it to when we begun the year together in September.  It was lovely to welcome some of our Year 6 children back to school last week, but we are still thinking of all of you who have stayed at home and you are in our thoughts as well head towards the end of term.

I have uploaded two more weeks worth of maths and English lessons which should provide you with lots to do over the next fortnight as well as some other tasks which you might like to complete at home.

*English. Please click on the link below.  This will take you to the ‘Hamilton Trust Home Learning’ website where you will find a variety of reading, SPAG and writing activities.

If you click on year 6 and weeks 11 and 12, you can then download the activities for the children to complete or they can complete them in their English books that were sent home.

*Maths. Please click on the link below.  This will take you to the ‘Maths White Rose Home Learning’ website where you will find a series of weekly lessons.

Please follow wk 7 and wk 8 (weeks commencing 8th June and 15th June).

Each week has 5 lessons and there is a short introduction to each followed by a worksheet. The worksheets can no longer be downloaded through White Rose so we have added them to our home learning page in the ‘activities’ section.

*Arithmetic.  Please refer to the arithmetic papers in the ‘activities’ section of the year 6 home learning page.  You will find ten activities for the children to complete each day over the two week period alongside their White Rose worksheets maths if possible.

Please refer to the email sent out last week which details the lessons we would normally cover in school on Growing and Changing and Puberty.

*High School transition

Please can your child engage with any High School transition activities they have been set, and if they haven’t been sent any, please visit the website links provided below.

*Other subjects

At the moment, in school, we are focussing on preparing our virtual leaver’s assembly and producing work which can be added to the year 6 section of our best books.  We intend to send your best books home over the next couple of weeks and it would be nice if you could produce some work to complete them at home.  You will need to produce a front cover for this year, have a look in your books to remind yourself how these have looked in previous years.

Some ideas for activities to go in your best books –

  • Look at the summer term activity sheet and choose activities that you would like to complete and find a way to record them on paper, using Pic Collage or taking photographs
  • A thank you letter to the NHS to commemorate their 72nd anniversary on July 5th.
  • A record of how you have kept busy at home during lockdown.
  • Some creative maths activities

There are lots of maths investigations available on the nrich website – choose one that appeals to you and have a go!

  • A poem to celebrate leaving primary school.

If your child would like to have a go at completing other tasks linked to different subjects at home, such as science, topic, or art, please visit the links below for lots of tasks and activities.

We would also encourage the children to keep up with the following:

*Daily reading with an adult

*Times Table Rock Stars

*Daily physical activities

We appreciate that keeping on top of home school learning and working from home can be a challenge, especially as we are fast approaching the end of term.  Please, just try your best to do what you can.  The important thing is to stay safe and well at this time, and, when possible, drop us an email with any updates and photos as this always puts a huge smile on our faces!

Thank you for your support at this difficult time.

Mrs Hunt

(and of course Mrs Rowlands and Miss Riley)

If you have any problems with any of the links or work set then you can contact us using the email and we will try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Take care and look after each other.  We can’t wait to see you all again soon!
