Year 4

Home learning weeks beginning 6.7.20 and 13.7.20

Dear children and families

Hello again from Mrs Whitfield and I!  We are fast approaching the end of the school year now and we hope that you and your families are all safe and well.  We are still missing you all and look forward to reading your emails and seeing your Twitter posts.  Please keep them up!

Please find below a selection of activities for the final TWO weeks of the school year for your child to complete at home.  They can all be found in the home learning section on our school website.  We ask that you just try your best to do what you can – whatever you do will be great no doubt!

English

Please click on the link below.  This will take you to the ‘Hamilton Trust Home Learning’ website where you will find a variety of reading, SPAG and writing activities.

https://www.hamilton-trust.org.uk/blog/learning-home-packs/

If you click on year 4 and weeks 10, 11 or 12 (depending where you are up to), you can then download the activities for the children to complete.

Alternatively, children may wish to complete a writing task from the list below.  Each piece should be approximately a page long and children can choose from the following tasks:

– write a letter to your new teacher telling them about yourself.  You can then email this to the teacher’s email address ([email protected])

– write a letter to your future self about your lockdown/home learning experience

– write a letter to Mrs Whitfield and I about your memories of year 4.  We would love to read them!

– draw a treasure map and write a set of instructions explaining how to find the treasure

– research your favourite sports or pop star and write a fact file about them

Spellings

Please see refer to the year 3/4 spelling word list in the ‘activities’ section of the year 4 home learning page.  If possible, continue to practise between three to five of these words each day.

Maths

Our new science topic is all about plants.  Perhaps you could grow your own plant from a seed?  What are the best conditions to grow a plant in?  Could you set up a science experiment at home to see find out if a plant will live and grow in the dark?

Art

Go on a tree hunt in the local area.  Can you name the trees and then draw some of their leaves?

Also can you draw any flowers you can find in your local area?  Can you name the different parts of the flowers?

We would also encourage the children to keep up with the following:

*Daily reading with an adult
*Times Table Rock Stars
*Daily physical activities

We appreciate that keeping on top of home school learning and working from home can be very difficult at this time, so please just try your best to do what you can.  The important thing is to stay safe and well at this time, and, when possible, drop us an email with any updates and photos as this always puts a huge smile on our faces!
